Set way back in the hills is this Edenic lake
Tranquil mirror of the crags and podocarps.
A definite must-see with a decent road. But no!
A hellish ten-mile hiking track. That’s criminal.
As motorists, we stuck it to the Tourist People.
“It’s not fair to the invalides and those with kids.
These people just lose out.” That’s what we said.
But could they understand we’d made a valid point?
Seems not! No thought there for convenience
But every thought for costs and who must pay.
“A dead-end road,” they said , “needs parking at it’s end.
You know what that entails, some rubbish bins, collection.”
“We’ll bet the trampers don’t take rubbish home,” we said.
“Potable water…toilets…needing to be cleaned.
Can’t send your precious invalides behind a bush,”
They claimed development would mar the pristine beauty.
The natural wonder booted crews trudge in to see.
They told us our next want would be a boating ramp
To introduce their fragile lake to ‘diddymo;.
When progress, thought-for-others, meet officialdom
They meet with qutcksand!
