The time’s long overdue to quit our bach at Onepu.
The bad feeling incurred makes it the wisest thing to do.
Our memories, our sacrifice to buy it, these we now must sell.
The wider family’s come to think the bach is theirs as well.
Theirs to use as they see fit or lend to favoured friends.
Offering first, then asking us, their cheek just never ends.
The rates, of course, are ours, insurance, upkeep, power bill.
They paint us stinking rich and don’t contribute, never will.
And when the tanks run dry, they never mess about.
They cell-phone call to have us send a water tanker out.
The property, the bach, the tanks belong to us and hence
They think the water naturally should be at our expense.
And when we say, “You drained the tanks, in fairness you should pay.”
We’re being ‘mean, vindictive, trying to ruin their holiday.’
Enough’s enough! Kids grown and flown we’ll sell our little gem.
Enjoy the rellies’ screams when it’s pulled out from under them.
