We’ve been together all our lives, Jim Boy.
It’s been a boon to have a friend like you.
With all we’ve shared, events cannot destroy
The closer bond than brothers ’tween we two.

You understand me, care consistently.
When I’m chased off to bed, disgraced outcast,
Rejected by the world, you comfort me,
Lie at my side and bring me peace at last.

And when I chopped my foot it wasn’t Dad
Or Mum I looked to first to give support.
I bellowed out for ‘Jimmy’, yes you lad,
For you’re my strength, in trouble you’re my fort.

Somehow without you I can’t sleep at night,
And here your mischief shows itself I fear,
Each bedtime finds you strangely out of sight,
The house in turmoil ’til you reappear.

Jim….please don’t take too hard what I must say.
My parents say you mean too much to me.
I’m growing up. I’m turning ten today.
They can’t see you. A pillow’s all they see.
