It rankles, sickens me, that subtle lie
That brought me censure. Powerless was my
Sad truth ‘gainst his ‘divine’ authority.
A lesson for the future that must be.
The saintly-seeming Pastor of our flock
Declined to give the ‘weak of faith’ the shock
Of disillusion. So I paid the price.
The ‘greater good’ required my sacrifice.
And now he gives a lead, forgiving me.
A nice display of Christian charity.
Still, underneath, I know he knows he owes.
Through all that posed concern his unrest shows.
I’ll let him stew. An ‘asked’ apology
Is, simply stated, worthless currency.
But! Hideous thought! He might yet prove ‘a man.’
So I must hug this grievance while I can.
