Perhaps one sees things just that little clearer in the dark
Lying sleepless in the middle hours mind roving restless,
Stripping bare the should-be-obvious long masked,
Charging me with gullibility. Which charge I can’t deny.

There’s Ken my one-time Ministry Of Works apprentice.
Department legend, envied sexual folk-hero
While virgin me had difficulty even saying, “Hi!”
But decades on facts speak and Ken was crafted myth.

Ruth I thought my better, awed by glowing sanctity.
When she was framed by cunning friends, saddled with blame,
Her trusting nature taken cruel advantage of, I fought for her,
Believed when no-one else believed. I now know me deceived.

Ralph had me bluffed. I couldn’t see that he was just all talk.
And needed to dash off to leave me make more difficult repairs.
His skill level / experience claims inflated to top mine.
His electronic-whiz-ship mantle wholly undeserved.

This says little for my skill in judging people.
But!……I think it better gullible than cynical.
