I bitch because I love you girl,
Nag because I really care.
There’s a system, preditory,
Smiling come-ons just out there.
Brightly gleam its doubtful values,
Subtley are their merits sung.
Hidden snares, with bait enticing,
Wait to trap unwary young.
Precepts that my mother lived by,
That have helped me to this day,
Slyly these ones would disparage,
Have you trash and throw away.
Undermining all I’ve taught you,
Massed, their prophets stand arrayed.
I seem to fight the whole world ‘Love’
And–can you wonder?–I’m afraid.
